March is the month of International Women’s Day and this global, international event honours the contributions and achievements of women around the world. This is a recognition that should not be conferred only once a year but an awareness that runs through our daily lives.

The sacrifices, strengths and steadfastness demonstrated by the women around us never fail to inspire. And this month, we shine the spotlight on them.

In the fast-paced and dynamic marketing industry where agility, versatility and astuteness are demanded at every moment, our lady bosses, working mums and women warriors are constantly pursuing excellence. Despite work life bleeding into private lives with work-from-home arrangements, the demands of child-rearing and a million things vying for attention at once, they remain pillars of strength that uplift and steer the company in the right direction.

ENCE Marketing Group is a big advocate for having women in management and giving them a stake in leadership. Boosting women leaders is part of the company’s practice and giving them opportunities to rise in the industry is an everyday occurrence. With a strong support network where women support women, the whole team moves forward seamlessly.

With International Women’s Day this month and Mother’s Day coming up in May, we give you 3 ideas to show appreciation for the women in your life. Whether they are your bosses, female colleagues, mothers, aunts, sisters, cousins or your partner, these gift ideas will certainly make them feel special!

1. Send Her Flowers Using the Speediest Gifting Platform

Does she deserve your appreciation IMMEDIATELY? It’s possible with Ferns N Petals’ Same Day Delivery, 1-Hour Delivery, Midnight Delivery, Morning Delivery and Fixed Time Delivery that ensures that your thoughts and well-wishes are communicated anytime.

The customer service officer will carefully consider the requirements given and come up with proposals after which the chosen items will be dispatched.

Choose from an ample array of thoughtful presents and personalised gifts to express your appreciation to the women in your life at www.fnp.sg and read more about them here.

2. Treat Her to Delicious and Guilt-Free Taiwanese Fruit Tea with Hot and Cold Options

Office ladies, working mums and stay-home-mums can be a busy bunch. A delicious pick-me-up during the day would be welcome treat and Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea offers just that. The brand is even inspired by a female figure. How apt to celebrate International Women’s Day

The story of Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea began in the kitchen. Married to a young farmer who toiled in the pineapple plantation to earn a livelihood, the founder’s grandmother, Yifang, decided to make him a refreshing pineapple drink using overripe pineapples which she braised into homemade jam. More than three generations later, her legacy lives on in more than 1,500 outlets in countries such as the United States, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Dubai and the South East Asian region.

Fresh fruits are made into jam with no artificial flavourings or concentrated juice added, preserving their natural taste without any additives.  For that added touch of sweetness, golden crystals of natural cane sugar are infused into the mix for a pleasant aftertaste that is not cloying like sucrose and fructose.

The Yifang Fruit Tea is a cup of premium mountain tea mixed with delicious pineapple jam, tangy passionfruit, and zesty lemon, apple and orange slices. For time-strapped office workers hungry for a filling guzzle instead of a post-lunch quencher, the lavender-hued Taro Latte with its freshly-mashed taro paired with fresh milk is a satisfying beverage. Drinks such as Ginger Lemon Tea, Longan & Jujube Tea and Pearl Ginger Black Tea Latte are served warm and are certainly Ah Ma-approved!

Drop by Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea outlets at Shell Sengkang, Shell Bukit Batok Nature Park or Canberra Plaza to pick up drinks in the heartlands, or sip on fruit tea in town when you head to Change Alley Mall or Orchard Central. Follow them at www.facebook.com/yifangtea.sg and www.instagram.com/yifangtea.sg for latest drink promotions!

3. Go Beyond For Her With Stylish Wireless Earbuds

Complement the women in your life this International Women’s Day. Planet Beyond’s latest range of sophisticated, wearable technology fuses style with technology

Planet Beyond’s expansion into Asia introduces its unique concept to the market with the PBX01 Earphone and the PB02 Powerpack, both of which are sophisticated devices of the highest quality and performance.

Additionally, its aesthetic styling has been purposefully crafted to exude elegance and refinement. A wide array of decorative attachments for the earbuds (SGD108) can be added for an additional personal flair. These come in 4 whimsical designs of shooting stars, constellation, leaves and supernova, made to stand out in either gold, silver or rose. Taking inspiration from nature and the cosmos, delicate embellishments in the shape of constellations and leaves can be chosen from a range of designs.

These enhancements can then be paired with the PBX01 earphone as a statement of individuality and personal style. The delicate Leaves Décor folds across the ridge of the ear and extends from the PBX01 in an unabashed testament to conservation; like a cascade of autumn leaves unfurled upon a golden branch. The Supernova Décor is festive and exuberant, dazzling with the radiance of a thousand suns, leaving a lasting impression in its wake. Staying the course with its concept of cosmic proportions, the Shooting Star Décor takes on a decidedly quixotical twist. It is a playful design that is dynamic and evokes the wonder and awe of the celestial spectacle. Completing the collection, the Constellation Décor takes its muse from the multitude of lights that adorn the night sky. Just as the twinkling stars are cast across the heavens and into the depths of twilight, this piece emblazons the PBX01 in the majesty of the constellations.

Enter another world when you find out more about Planet beyond here.

This article was supposed to be published on the first week of 2021. As the days crept towards the middle of the month, our content team’s anxiety was almost reaching a full-blown panic.

A blog article detailing valuable insights from our managing director, Angela, was planned as a wrap-up of the year that was 2020, and a forecast of the year to come. The content team strategised early, booked the boss’ time for a quick chat, scheduled the appointment into the calendar, set several alerts… but something cropped up every single time. A client’s call, a staff meeting, a business pitch that overran, a trainer from an online course who delayed the lunch break, a networking session… she simply had no time.

“I don’t even have the time to drink water,” she mused as she hurriedly poured a glass for herself when we finally caught her on a Friday evening as the rest of the staff were packing up and heading home.

We gave her a pause to chug a few mouthfuls before shooting our questions. Time with Angela was right in front of us, and we grabbed it.

Finally, we’re speaking to the managing director of ENCE Marketing Group, who has obviously not had a slow or quiet 2020.

ENCE Marketing Group was established on 13 June 2007, and 2021 marks 15 years of this SME in the business. That is no mean feat for a homegrown marketing agency that has weathered various storms, and now the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We’re not really affected by the pandemic,” Angela asserts. That is a bold statement but one that can only be declared by a company that is agile, efficient, innovative and driven. The onslaught of Covid-19 has affected events, work arrangements, company budgets, marketing channels – in general, everything that was normal to us. Yet, the company adapted easily, and life went on.

Of course, it only seemed smooth on the surface. Since seven years ago, Angela, ever the advocate for transformation, was already introducing cloud-based processes and systems into the company’s SOP. Instituting change within the company, especially when there was no external force like a pandemic driving the change, was not easy but she was firm in her vision.

“The future is mobile and agile. Inertia is probably the worst thing to have as a marketing agency,” she observes.

With the company’s cloud-based processes, organised filing system and agile system in place, shifting to a work-from-home arrangement proved to be a smooth transition. She never imagined a fully remote work environment mandated by a global pandemic, but she ensured that the company’s agility always allowed for any situation.

“Communications is a difficult thing to systemise. You would imagine that it was more based in ideas, than numbers; reach than value; relationships than strategy; but it can be done and it has brought us, and our clients, to where we are today.”

“We see many examples of SMEs and PR firms remaining as boutique agencies where the team is kept small and business growth is always limited by resources. With the mindset of agility, we are able to cater work for a bigger team with an emphasis on communication and teamwork to get everyone on the same page.”

A team rowing the boat towards the same direction together is an analogy that she always uses.

“Over the years, we have managed to build an ENCE community where the staff share similar ideals despite vastly different backgrounds,” she says with pride.

In 2020, ENCE Marketing rolled out various schemes to help new and existing clients cope with the uncertain times.

The PR arm, Affluence PR, offered retainer clients a complimentary contract extension of two months, to help shoulder some of their clients’ business costs during the circuit breaker period.

In an act of solidarity for SME clients, the firm decided to offer as much support as they can to their clients in the most badly affected sectors, in retail and F&B.  In April 2020 when the Circuit Breaker first kicked in, Affluence PR had already offered deferred payment schemes to clients that needed to conserve cash to keep their businesses afloat.  Towards the end of the Circuit Breaker and after assessing its own finances and business continuity and viability, Affluence PR ascertained that it is in a stable position that will be able to support its clients and to help other SMEs tide over this period.

ENCE Marketing Group also launched a no-risk, guaranteed sales and new leads marketing package only for SMEs. This package is exclusively for SMEs that need to pivot their business to go digital, but lack the funds to do so.

“Our team is also fully committed to put in our maximum effort to help SMEs go digital,” Angela says. “Despite the perceived time savings of not having to travel to work, our team has actually been putting in longer hours to upgrade ourselves, learn new technologies and then pass on this knowledge to our clients.  Besides the daily operational work, we are spending more time now to help clients build their online and digital marketing infrastructure.  Government support in the past year has also been very helpful, and has enabled us to extend this help to clients.”

When asked for her predictions in the marketing, PR, events and design landscape for 2021, “digital branding” comes up frequently. “Brands are looking to create new identities for the online marketplace. They are motivated to innovate, create a new brand name, refresh their logo… it’s all about taking risks in 2021.”

One thing that stays the same, however, is her goal for the year ahead. “To do better” – which is something that she looks forward to doing every year.

We notice the time ticking away and her phone buzzing with more incoming messages and notifications. We decide to end our conversation here and dangled a last question on a somewhat more personal note.

“What was your biggest takeaway from 2020?”

“Always look for the silver lining.”

And that’s it. We think back about how we were worrying about the timeline of the article, but felt comforted by the fact that maybe it came at the right time. It all fell into place like how 2020 did.

United Kingdom, 2020 – LUXlife magazine announces the winners of the 2020 Food & Drink Awards.

This year has been the harbinger of challenge, and perhaps no more so than for the hospitality industries. Simple things, such as having food traffic, have been far from guaranteed. For many, it’s been a year of ‘worst case scenario’. Something that couldn’t possibly be planned for.

However, that’s not to say that 2020 has been completely void of achievements and success. Because, out of the many challenges 2020 has brought to many a threshold, it has also offered an opportunity to adapt in unexpected ways. Businesses have capitalised on uncertainty and wielded impressive reputations and expertise to bring about new achievements. New successes. New growth. It is with that in mind that LUXlife launched this year’s Food and Drink Awards. To celebrate every success, no matter how small they may seem.

Chug – Singapore is awarded the Most Innovative Exclusive Nightlife Recommendation App 2020.

Commenting on the winners of this year’s awards programme, Coordinator Katherine Benton stated: “It’s been a difficult year for the hospitality and food and drink industries. With that, I offer my sincere congratulations to all of those recognised. I hope you have a better, and thriving year ahead.”

To find out more about these prestigious awards, and the dedicated establishments that have been selected for them, please visit https://www.lux-review.com/ where you can view our winners supplement and full winners list.

Tam Jai International Co. Limited raises temperatures in its first foray outside Hong Kong with the launch of TamJai SamGor Mixian (“SamGor”) in Singapore. The Michelin-approved, award-winning household noodle brand from Hong Kong adds on to its 66 native outlets to bring a taste of Hong Kong street food to spice-obsessed Singaporeans.

Well-loved for its intensely-flavoured, piquantly-spicy bowl of mixian with six soup bases, 10 levels of spiciness and a selection of fresh ingredients to choose from, Hong Kong’s favourite noodles will leave locals thirsty for more.

Unlike the typical noodles widely used in the market, what truly sets apart SamGor’s ‘mixian’ is its chewiness and cooking method that ensures it remains al dente (or ‘firm to the bite’). Its smooth surface makes it a perfect complement to SamGor’s unique soup bases. Made simply from the humble rice flour and water, ‘mixian’ is gluten free and gentle to the digestive system, suitable for discerning palates of all ages.

A Bowl of Endless Combinations

SamGor’s first overseas outlet opens at Bedok Mall serves its signature customisable bowl of noodles in over 700,000 available combinations. The chain also serves up an “all-in-one” combo mixian and an array of side dishes redolent with the tastes of Chinese and Hong Kong-style cuisine.

In every bowl of mixian, smooth strands of rice noodles are immersed in a flavourful broth with SamGor’s secret blend of spices, including the famed Sichuan peppercorn. The iconic Hong Kong noodle chain popularised Yunnan mixian  when founder Mr. “Sam Gor” Tam Chap Kwan first established TamJai Yunnan Mixian with his brothers in 1996. He was intrigued by the unique texture of mixian and found that it goes perfectly with Sichuan mala hotpot soup.

Complexity of Flavours

Inspired, he created SamGor mixian that brings the tastes experiences with “fragrant, numbing, hot and spicy” in sequence at the one time in mind. A lingering fragrance due to the unique, aromatic mix of spices is followed by a slow spreading of tingling numbness that envelopes the tongue. The final salivating spiciness enters and stays in the mouth and throat. It stays in the mind too. After the sweat, spice and throbbing heat, diners return to experience it all over again.

Smooth yet chewy mixian, a spicy yet flavourful broth, and an unforgettable taste that lingers in the mouth, it is no wonder that diners in Hong Kong are wildly addicted to the taste of SamGor.

Unique Soup Bases with Ten Levels of Spiciness

It offers spicy-seeking noodle lovers a selection of six unique soup bases for all kinds of tingling sensations. One of the most popular choices, Ma La Soup (Hot & Numbing Soup), is a slow creeping of numbness followed by a hit of electrifying spiciness. Order Wu La Soup (Charred Pepper & Spices Soup) which is a SamGor original recipe. Founder Sam Gor infused the taste of his favourite dish, claypot rice, by frying chilli and spices to the brink of being burnt. These charred spices are then added to the broth for a smoky flavour to spread through the soup. Perfect for Singaporeans who love wok hei.

SamGor is known as the original spicy soup experts and its soup bases have set the standard for spicy food in Hong Kong. Spike the soup with 10 levels of heat, starting with Non-Spicy for the spice-averse, followed by a spectrum of Mild levels, to Hot and Extra Hot. 1/10 Mild, which is second on the SamGor spicy meter, is recommended for first timers to the brand.

Pick from a list of over 20 ingredients with the likes of shrimp wanton, premium beef slices and bamboo fungus to add to the customised bowl of smooth mixian. For the undecided, SamGor offers a combo dish, Cross-Bridge Mixian (Guo Qiao Mixian), where noodles are crowned by a variety of 16 pre-selected toppings. One of the not-to-be-missed side dishes is the brand’s trademarked TuFei (Hunan Cumin) Chicken Wings. The chicken is marinated with special herbs and the skin is roasted to a crisp which shatters to reveal tender, juicy meatwhich oozes flavour with every bite.

Mr Daren Lau, Chief Executive Officer, TamJai International, says “The opening of SamGor in Singapore brings our original spicy flavours and authentic Hong Kong food style first time to overseas markets. As a vibrant and energetic city same as SamGor’s character, Singapore is a melting pot for various food cultures in line with SamGor’s vision of pursuing culinary excellence by continually introducing new and creative elements in our dining concept. We believe our unique spicy flavours will be a real appeal to food lovers in the country.  Opening stores across the borders under the Covid-19 shadow is a great challenge, but it does not stop us in sharing the great tastes to our foodies and friends in Singapore. As the spicy food authority in Hong Kong, we also hope to establish our unique spicy spectrum as the new international standard for hotness.”

The TamJai Mixian Empire

From a neighbourhood corner store in Sham Shui Po to one of Hong Kong’s most recognised chain restaurants[1], SamGor’s style of mixian has become an integral part of Hong Kong’s food culture. In 2011, SamGor was recognised with a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide and retained its title for three consecutive years.

Proliferating to 66 outlets (as at 1 September 2020) in Hong Kong and seeking mixian domination with its sister brand TamJai Yunnan Mixian (“TamJai”) with 65 outlets (as at 1 September 2020), SamGor hopes that the popularity of mixian boils over to the international food scene.

“Since Toridoll Holdings Corporation acquired TamJai and SamGor in 2018, we have dedicated our resources to strengthen our market positioning, enhance operation standards and efficiencies, develop innovative products as well as improve overall food safety and food quality. Supported by the dedicated efforts of all our colleagues, we have now built a solid foundation, and we believe that this is the right time to expand our brands overseas. In the true spirit of SamGor’s vision and persevering nature, the brand is all about serving good food enhanced by creativity and innovation.” Daren adds.

Starting with the opening of the 1,270 sq. ft., 64-seater outlet in Bedok Mall, two larger outlets are slated to open in November closer to the central area – Chinatown Point and VivoCity. To commemorate its grand opening in Singapore, SamGor will be handing out 300 free bowls of noodles over the course of three days of their opening. 100 bowls will each be given out on 30 October (Friday) from 5-7pm; 31 October (Saturday) from 3-5pm; and 1 November (Sunday) from 3-5pm. Only those who have followed SamGor’s Facebook page and obtained a queue number within the first 100 are entitled to this promotion, applicable for dine-in only.

Happy Cup opened their first outlet in Singapore in 1996, making their mark with 45 stores opening in quick succession at the turn of the century. At the height of the bubble tea fame in the first few years of the millennia, there was a bubble tea shop at almost every corner in the heartlands. In spite of the competition, the Happy Cup franchise refused to compromise on quality in order to participate in the price war. Instead, it focused on its expansion elsewhere with 200 stores opened globally, so as to maintain consistency in quality in it’s bubble tea.

Almost two decades later, Happy Cup comes back to our shores – with an arsenal of enticing flavours made with high quality ingredients enhanced by technology, a result of extensive research and development over the years.

Happy Cup Singapore aims to revolutionise the way locals enjoy their regular cup of bubble tea.Their Teapressto machine promises the most authentic taste of freshly brewed tea, as tea artists craft each cup of beverage with a technique developed by a Professional Tea Barista.

Amalgamation of Modern Technology and Traditional Flavours

Tea connoisseurs may assert the traditional Kungfu tea brewing technique to be best for exquisite flavours like Oolong, Ceylon and Oriental Beauty, but Happy Cup is here to prove otherwise. The Teapressto machine coaxes the finest flavours out of specially selected tea leaves with the perfect temperature in just 60 seconds.

With the mission in giving 100% natural ingredients in their beverages, Happy Cup provides cold-pressed fruit juices by using High-Pressure Process System (HPP) instead of flavoured syrups. “This is to ensure ultimate quality and freshness throughout our menu and enjoyment of our customers,” says Jessie Hung, the representative of Happy Cup Singapore.

Artisanal Processes from Start to Finish

To bring customers the best quality boba, Happy Cup sources their tapioca from Thailand. To please the most discerning of taste buds, tea leaves are meticulously cultivated in Taiwan, hand-harvested, withered, dried and ground in-store.

1 second of delicate, meticulous grinding of the tea leaves, 60 seconds with the Teapressto brewing machine, followed by a vigorous shake by tea baristas using the standard cocktail competition-based Boston Shakers yields a flavoursome brew that’s truly out of this world. As tea swirls in the shaker, flavours are evenly diffused with mixers by the flow of air. Astringency is removed in this process. This is how Happy Cup’s tea baristas create the perfect cup of tea, with distinct depths and nuances in each sip.

Sweet treats at Happy Cup are completely customisable. With a selection of four different high-quality tea bases (Jasmine Green Tea, Oolong Tea, Roasted Oolong Tea and Ceylon Black Tea), customers are free to pair their teas by adding flavours such as fruits or milk. Happy Cup also provides a wide range of toppings from Boba, Grass Jelly, Aloe Vera, Chia Seed and more to enhance the flavours of their beverages according to different preferences.

The Evaporated Milk with Roasted Oolong and Pearl Tea comes highly recommended. Made from high-quality evaporated milk imported from Holland, the rich and creamy texture brings a whole new dimension to your bubble tea drinking experience. For customers who would like to try something different from the regular tea base, Jessie recommends the Taro Milk with Taro Ball. The velvety and intense combination of mashed fresh taro and fresh milk is silky on the tongue, and ends with a burst of sweet and nutty flavour and a slight hint of vanilla.

Happy Cup’s first flagship store launches in 100AM Mall in Tanjong Pagar. From 12 to 31 October, for any purchase of two drinks, customers will receive a complimentary customised denim tea cup holder.

Grandma huddles over a giant seasoned wok with a metallic ladle which she wields with a wizened hand. The fragrant aroma that perfumes the air is not of her home-cooked dishes but a viscous mixture of plump tapioca pearls which she stirs with effort, and with love. Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea’s newest outlet at the refurbished Change Alley Mall features its first open kitchen in the world with grandma at the helm to deliver a generous serving of the taste and tradition of Taiwan fruit tea.

The newest outlet in the Singapore CBD district is the first one to bring the spirit of Grandmother Yifang’s kitchen to the world.

Mayvia Koh, Director at NextStep Holdings which owns the master franchise in Singapore and Hong Kong, says “Grandma lies at the heart of Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea. The kitchen where her recipes are born and drinks are lovingly made, enriches Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea with nostalgia and tradition. We hope that customers will be brought closer to the Yifang story with a real-life grandma working at the shop to remind everyone of the love of family and possibly, the sweet taste of childhood.”

A range of fruit teas, tea lattes, traditional teas and new drink series will be doled out from the kitchen and made fresh upon order using imported ingredients from Taiwan. Tea leaves are freshly-picked from 140 hectares of tea gardens in Mingjian, Lugu and Sun Moon Lake, while the best seasonal fruits are selected from different regions: pineapples from Guanmiao, green plums from Xinyi Township, granadilla from Puli, roselle from Jinfeng, kumquat from Ilan, and cane from Shikou.

From left: Yifang Fruit Tea, Taro Latte with sago topping and the new Sweet Red Bean with Jelly Cake Latte

Two new drink series will be available at Change Alley Mall – Cheese Milk Foam Fruit Tea Series and Sweet Red Bean Series, with the addition of new hot drinks to the Traditional Taste Series. Drinks such as Ginger Lemon Tea, Longan & Jujube Tea and Pearl Ginger Black Tea Latte are served warm and are certainly Ah Ma-approved! Out of the new creamy Cheese Milk Foam Fruit Tea Series, Cheese Milk Foam Yifang Fruit Tea is available hot and cold for customers to savour the drink two ways. With the luxury to choose between hot and cold versions for plenty of drinks on the menu, there is something to sip and savour on any occasion.

In a sea of F&B options available, look out for Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea’s signature retro shop design which is inspired by interior styles from Taiwan and Okinawa with light oak wooden panels and warm lighting. Or, catch the inviting waft of freshly-cooked tapioca pearls drifting through the air which will lead to handcrafted, Taiwan fruit tea goodness.

To celebrate its store opening, Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea will be launching a 1-for-1 promotion on any purchase of a large cup of the signature Yifang Fruit Tea. This offer is valid from 1 October to 3 October 2020 and is available at both Change Alley Mall and Orchard Gateway outlets.

Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea is venturing out of the town area to provide grab-and-go options at Shell petrol stations. The outlet at Shell @ Sengkang opens in mid-October and another at Shell @ Bukit Batok is slated to open in end October. There are plans for every Shell station island-wide to have an Yifang Taiwan Fruit Tea outlet to make healthy and quality drinks easily accessible.

Dining is one of the simple pleasures in life, and Keith Lee has a simple goal of making quality Italian food affordable for Singaporeans. His passion has led him to start, and fail, his very first Italian F&B venture almost 20 years ago. But that did not deter him from continuing his quest to bring culinary joy to the masses. In 2015, he founded PocoLoco with the same dream but with the experience, scalds and burns that come with being an F&B owner. Now at two locations, heartlanders can regularly enjoy high-end Italian food as a weekday staple and a weekend treat without burning a hole in their pocket.

PocoLoco’s philosophy is palpable in their food, service and ambience. The unassuming, casual dining spaces at Novena and Upper Thomson are enlivened by friends and families enjoying a good Italian meal, where food is at the heart of the experience. Fresh, home-made pasta is paired with premium imported ingredients like saffron, burrata cheese, sea urchin and truffle. At PocoLoco, quality Italian food can be enjoyed for under $20.

The Chef’s Recommendation, two recipes of Uni Tagliolini, features fresh, rich Hokkaido sea urchin lying atop loops of thin pasta strands. Choose tagliolini for a hot pasta dish served fresh from the pan, or the delicate capellini crowned with uni and Hokkaido scallops, served cold. For a different kind of seafood-y  explosion, go for the Mentaiko, a bowl of tagliolini doused generously with mentaiko chubu infused in cream sauce. Meat lovers can opt for Manzo, a serving of finely sliced beef and fettuccine pasta cooked with truffle mushrooms and flavoured with truffle oil extract.

Cold & Hot Uni Tagliolini

For more dining options, PocoLoco introduces a new seasonal menu of finely curated chef’s recommendations from appetisers to dessert. Dig in to Oven-Baked Mussels with Garlic, Butter and Cheese; Linguine di Mare alla Cartoccio (Baked Pasta); Honey Glaze Pork Collar with Sautéed Portobello Mushrooms Served in Mash Potato; and a lightly sweet yet decadent Cheese Cake with Hazelnut Gelato to cap off the entire experience. The menu draws on the best seasonal ingredients in the market and is available at both outlets.

Owner of PocoLoco, Keith Lee, had the privilege to experience the emergence of the fine dining Italian restaurant culture in Singapore from two decades ago, and expresses his desire to offer diners the full ristorante experience complete with fancy white table cloths and professional full table service. But he knows that his low prices do not afford the luxury that he wishes his customers could experience. “The essence of Italian cuisine is in its ingredients. Premium cheese, fresh seafood and handmade pasta are used to create classic and delicious dishes that I hope Singaporeans can regularly indulge in. Simple enjoyment does not come cheap so we focus on serving quality Italian food in a relaxed and comfortable setting in the heartlands”, he says.

He opened his first Italian restaurant when he was only 20, using his hard-earned savings which were accumulated over years of slogging through multiple part-time jobs in high-end Italian restaurants, bars, cafes and eateries. Besides savings, he earned the friendship of many chefs whom he employs today.

Executive Chef Arnold Caleon started off his illustrious career in Singapore at Alba Italian Restaurant which was previously located at Keong Saik Road. It was where he got to know Keith. He journeyed on to L’Operetta in 2014, continuing on to helm the PocoLoco kitchen when it opened in 2015.

Keith is also owner of Siam Square Mookata which has proliferated to 10 outlets island wide. His only dream is for PocoLoco to mirror the success of its sister company and make authentic Italian cuisine a familiar staple for all Singaporeans.

PocoLoco serves up a trattoria experience at Upper Thomson and Novena. Set dinner is available at both locations.

Diners can enjoy 30% off main courses between 3-5pm on weekends when they dine in at PocoLoco. This promotion runs from August to December 2020.

PocoLoco is available for delivery on the following platforms: GrabFood, Foodpanda and Deliveroo. Or reach PocoLoco directly at +65 8826 1919 to arrange for delivery.

Singapore’s 55th birthday celebration looks a little different this year – no red-and-white extravaganzas with massive displays and performances, no “Kallang wave” at the Marina Bay floating platform and an added accessory on top of waving flags and donning National Day colours – masks!

Though singapore’s 55th natinal day celebrations appear to be more “muted” as compared to a pre-Covid times, the Singapore spirit seems to be stronger than ever. There is still much to celebrate and honour in times of a crisis. In a Time Magazine article, Singapore was chosen by Eurasia Group as one of the standout countries that handled Covid-19 best. “Singapore was among the first countries hailed as a “winner” among national pandemic responses, a well-deserved reputation on the back of its aggressive approach to contact tracing and widespread testing.” The mammoth task of clearing dormitories of Covid-19, implement nationwide measures to curb the spread and the rapid development of a coronavirus vaccine in Singapore can only be attributed to a collective effort that is driven by efficiency and leadership.

What have we learned from the past few months and how do move forward from here?

1. Embrace Uncertainty with Agility

The word “pivot” has become the latest buzzword and there’s a good reason why – everyone has been forced out of their comfort zones to embrace “the new normal”. Doctors and healthcare professionals have been reassigned to take on new roles, battling the pandemic in its face; schools and teachers have switched to e-learning when e-learning used to be sort of an unofficial holiday to stay home; sports and arts, previously associated with sprawling stadiums and concert halls were relegated to the home; and businesses have become remote and continue to stay that way.

Those who innovated to adapt using technology, creativity and optimism are those who thrived in spite of the negative outlook.

In marketing, we have helped brands take on the online sphere with more tools on hand to create a truly integrated marketing campaign through marketing, PR, social, digital and design.

Even the traditional office space and ways of working have transformed: https://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/what-the-post-covid-19-office-might-look-like

At ENCE Marketing Group, we decided to ramp up our innovation initiatives with digital platforms and apps to integrate our marketing and content calendar, automated media pitching systems and brainstorming more creative PR campaigns to help our clients get ahead. We also embarked on Project Management training where we learned the intricacies of managing projects, big and small, to achieve the KPIs set out for every project. The key? Organisation – easy to say but difficult to achieve!

2. Support Local

The term “support local” has been thrown around for a long time but the pandemic has shown us exactly why it is absolutely necessary to do so.

The vulnerability of the industries such as F&B, retail, sports, arts, events and tourism were exposed and laid bare before us. In PR, we chose to focus on telling authentic brand stories especially during this period where the human spirit and connection is in the spotlight. This has enabled us to clinch multiple key media features for our clients driver their brand awareness.

We have launched a no-risk, guaranteed sales and new leads marketing package only for SMEs in support of local businesses. This package is for SMEs that need to pivot their business to go digital but lack the funds to do so. With support from the government and its financing partners, ENCE Marketing Group is able to offer an extremely attractive financial offer for all SME owners who urgently need marketing.

Find out more about the deferred payment scheme at www.encemarketing.com.

3. What is Essential Now?

With a lack of face to face interaction and almost everything moving online, good communication is key to delivering the right message to target audience and consumers. And even your clients and staff who are mostly in remote locations!

Consumers’ preferences have changed as well and it is crucial for brands to remain relevant, especially in a world that suddenly splits things into two categories: essential and non-essential.

Be in the know to stay close with your target audience and observe their changing priorities and preferences. How does your brand fit into what your target audience deem as essential?
